We will be closed temporarily as a public safety precaution... it turns out that I have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid. I have not experienced any symptoms, but I have been tested and I am awaiting test results, which unfortunately can take 7-10 days. This has been a very, very long four months for me, I very much appreciate your patience and continued support. If you currently have a bike in the shop for repair, or any special orders etc, I will be in touch with you at some point. Got in a couple of new items today, some Velo Orange "Mojave" water bottle cages... these bad boys fit 32oz Naglene or 40oz Klean Kanteen bottles for maximum hydration! Made of stainless steel, these cages also have five mounting holes for a total of three mounting positions!

RIP DICK MAUL
I am devastated to have to share the news that my dad, Dick Maul, passed away early last Tuesday. I am at a loss for words, without him I am not sure where I would have ended up in life, and there most certainly would never have been a Maul's Bike Shop. He was a good man, thank you dad. I love you and miss you.

CHAIN CARE/KMC RUSTPROOF CHAINS
Does your chain need to be replaced? Chains will wear over time, and if left unchecked it can lead to wear and tear on other, more expensive drivetrain components... this can also cause poor shifting, skipping, or chain failure, which of course can be dangerous.
How quickly your chain will wear depends on how often you ride, how hard you pedal, how well you keep your chain cleaned and lubricated, and what kind of conditions you ride in, as well as the condition of your chainrings and rear cogs.
Chain wear, or "stretch" as many people call it, can be measured... there is exactly 1/2" between pins on a new chain, so if you measure 24 pins away from any pin, it should be exactly 12". Once the chain is "stretched" or worn beyond a certain point, it will need to be replaced in order to lessen the chance of further damage.
There are several chain wear indicator tools that will give you much more accurate measurement... we sell these tools, or any time you would like to bring your bike in we would be happy to measure your chain at no cost. For the average rider, if you get a year out of a typical chain, I would say that you're doing pretty good!
If it turns out that you do need a new chain, we've got you covered... a great choice, especially for this time of year or if you live near the ocean, is the KMC "EcoProTeQ" rust proof/stretch resistant chain, which we stock in 8-11 speed versions.
